I haven't had so much fun in a classy restaurant bar in ages! What a wonderful place and to think that Stevie Wonder's keyboard player was playing backup to anyone who wanted to sing. The Bynum Pinot Noir topped off a lovely salad for my dinner, which is all I had because I have to go on a diet now. But I heard from several patrons that the veal parmigiana is excellent. I will drive the distance again just to have that kind of intimate fun. Who knows, maybe I will get Victoria to give me singing lessons so I can join in more than backup! 12/20/2009 janet P., San Leandro, CA. (Yelp.com)
My husband and I came in for our anniversary on a Thursday night. My husband had read that they have a piano player and thought it make be a romantic experience. It was so fun. The bartender Kelly is awesome. She is funny with a great personality and very attentive! Everyone in the place was very friendly! The piano player Gary sang everything and was very talented. We ordered appetizers in the lounge. My husband had the oysters on the half shell and I had the antipasto, both were great. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun, entertaining evening out. 1/23/2010 tomntay e., Dublin, CA. (Yelp.com)

Marcello’s Restaurant is Danville's little secret—a comfortable, cozy spot where you can dress up or down, with a fun piano bar in the tiny lounge with locals and visitors singing along, or get to solo .. and leave tips for the piano player who has the coolest voice!
I swear, this place makes THE best rack of lamb anywhere! And of course their Italian food is always delicious. I'm so hungry for their lamb after writing about it, I"m heading there now... see you at Danville's secret spot, Marcello's. 2/21/2008 Charzie, Danville (Yelp.com)

MARCELLOS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS! the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and so is the staff. the food is consistently great and you can't pass up the garlic bread or bruschetta. great live music only makes the place better. the staff is accomodating in all areas and the portions are generous as are the drinks. also, the lunch is great! the newly added happy hour specials for the bar include beef sliders for a quick bite. real italian with a great service, it doesn't get better than that! 6/11/2009 Christine, Danville (Yelp.com)

OUR EXPERIENCE AT MARCELLO’S WAS FANTASTIC! I had wanted to try the restaurant for so long and I finally got my chance when my family was visiting from out of town. I was able to try every dish we ordered and everything was superb. For an appetizer, we ordered a Marcello's specialty, the Pasta al Salvieto. It's usually served as a dinner, but we had it as an appetizer. It was like nothing I've ever tried. We also ordered the Vongole o Muscoli alla Marinara, steamed clams, as our second appetizer. The fresh sourdough bread, made at the restaurant, kept coming to accompany our appetizers. The other dishes we tried for dinner were Bistecca al Gorgonzola, a large and exceptionally yummy serving of New York Steak; Picatta di Pollo Capperi, sauteed breast of chicken; Sogliola Bella Maniera, sole with lemon and parsley; Bistecca al Naturale, broiled New York Steak; and Gnocchi al Gorgonzola. I still think of all the smells and tastes from that evening. Even the Marcello's labeled house wines were great. Veronica, Santa Rosa, CA (4/21/2009-Yelp.com)

EXCELLENT. Went to Marcellos this past Saturday night with a group of 20 or so folks. They handled us all professionally and we had a Blast. GREAT food, reasonably priced. Some of our group were teenage girls, and the pianist did a great job playing to their tastes. A great time was had by all. 3-9-09 NICOLE (Yelp.com)

MY WIFE AND I USED MARCELLO’S this past May for our rehearsal dinner. Despite going through a change of ownership in the middle of our negotiations, everything was handled professionally by the new owner, Jochen Wenzel who honored all the original menu and quotes. The tables were arranged expertly, the food was wonderfully prepared and presented and the service impeccable. They even printed out special menus to honor our occasion. Oh, and the pasta al salvieto is not to be missed and the chocolate gelato incomparable! We highly recommend Marcello's for any of you looking for a banquet or rehearsal dinner location of your own, or even just for a romantic dinner with your spouse. Thanks Marcello's! 8-4-08 Jim, Danville (Yelp.com)

VISITED FOR THE FIRST TIME and was so pleased to find such an attractive, relaxing, and delicious experience. Some other reviewers describe this as a “neighborhood Italian” place—I think that does it a disservice. The interior is beautiful, with fresh flowers, linen tablecloths and china, and the service was excellent and attentive. I think of a neighborhood Italian as being more barebones and basic, maybe with checked red and white tablecloths, the plastic grapes, etc. (But that may just be a reflection of my experience with neighborhood San Francisco Italian places, like Giorgio's on Clement or Villa Romana on Irving.) The food was excellent and a good value. We had a wonderful evening, and scanning the dining room, it appeared everyone else was too. A plus is the live piano music—so wonderful! —Bevy M. MY FRIENDS AND I WERE DIMAYED AND UPSET to read the critical restaurant review of Marcello’s Restaurant in Danville. We are not senior citizens: In fact, we are all in our thirties and forties and enjoy the lively bar (which serves terrific alcoholic drinks, as well as the non-alcoholic beverages mentioned in the article). We often eat there, also, and find the food inventive, very good, and reasonably priced. The new owner, Jochen Wenzel, and his wife have given a refreshing “German twist” to the menu of Marcello’s by the addition of such dishes as Sauerbraten and Schnitzel to their standard favorites. The wonderful conviviality of the bar, with its piano and singers (where everyone is welcome to sing), is something seldom seen in this day of sterile anonymity. My husband and I, along with many more of our young and old friends, feel that Diablo magazine should take another look at this unique restaurant that Danville is so lucky to have! Weekends are the best time to enjoy the welcoming fun to be found there…—Mike and Lisa Low, Danville 1-2009 (Diablo Magazine.com) Reader Response / On Diablo's Dining Reviews

I WENT TO MARCELLO’S LAST SATURDAY for the live music. The part of the restaurant carved out was tiny! BUT, the music was fantastic a pianist and a singer and it turned out to be somewhat of a party. The bartender brings your drinks to you and the Cosmo was good. I've heard they are creating a larger area for the music and tonight I'm going for dinner, so will get back with a review of the meal....—MF Walnut Creek, CA (Yelp.com) 1-10-09

I LOVE ALL OF THE LUNCH PANINI’S! Plus it's served with fruit, salad or fries for a reasonable price. Staff and owner are wonderfully pleasant! They have outdoor patio which is also a plus. This is a great place to take the family out to an exceptionally good italian dinner. Oh and I give all of the appetizers a thumb up!—Kainoa, Danville, CA (Yelp.com) 10-14-08
